The 4 Types of Employees You Need for a Well-Rounded Team

Every effective team consists of specific roles that work together to deliver results! As a leader, you need to get employees that work well together and balance each other's strengths and weaknesses. Every person does not need to be strong at every type of task, but every well-rounded team will have people who can work together and be strong as a whole. Here are some types of employees you need to make a well-rounded team.

1. The Leader

A young black woman appears to be leading a presentation around a table in a conference room as her fellow employees attentively pay attention.
A leader has the critical task of ensuring everyone works towards a mutual goal.

Every team needs someone to look to for direction! A Leader has the critical task of ensuring everyone works towards a mutual goal. Their job is less about completing tasks and more about organizing the vision that the team follows. From assigning tasks to mediating conflicts, the Leader's goal is to ensure the unit operates efficiently and follows your team’s big picture. As a Leader, you must also allow space for other team members to shine. People will look to the Leader when they need direction, but it doesn't mean that other team members don't have value to add to the team.

2. The Communicator

Although leaders are the ones establishing the goals for the team, Communicators are the ones that are making sure that the team is receiving them. Every team needs someone to share important information through the team and be available to receive feedback when needed. As a Communicator, you may not only communicate with the internal team but also with clients and partners. This role is the company's voice, gathering information within the business and supplying the needed information to employees and clients.

3. The Researcher

The researcher can also be seen as the problem solver of the group.

A role that can often be neglected is the Researcher. Someone on your team must be the go-to for finding answers to the group's needs, whether by gathering new information or finding their solutions on their own. These team members are the ones to ask the overlooked questions and supply further valuable information to the team. The Researcher can also be seen as the problem solver of the group. When the team is stuck on a problem, the Researcher is there to look at new creative solutions or information that may be useful in solving the issue.

4. The Worker

A young man is sitting in front of a computer and appears to be working on some kind of website or graphic.
The worker is a role that many people overlook or underestimate!

The Worker is another role that many people overlook or underestimate! Every team needs someone will be there to get tasks done. The Leader and Worker work close together. The Leader can facilitate tasks directly to the worker, and the task will get completed, no questions asked. One thing about the Worker is that they need clear direction. Although they can be self-sufficient, they need clear instructions on what needs to get done and how to do it.
